NTSB reports "very severe loss of separation" in Alaska incident

The NTSB is investigating a May 21 "near midair collision" at Stevens International Airport in Anchorage, Alaska, after a passenger jet was ordered by air traffic control to turn into the path of a cargo plane. The crew of the US Airways jet, which had missed a landing due to tailwinds, refused to follow ATC instructions "because the turn would have put their flight in direct conflict with the B747," according to the NTSB.
