Opera executive: Web is key to unifying smartphone software

Browser maker Opera says it believes HTML 5, which supports Web-based application development, is critical for unifying mobile browsers and smartphone applications. It will help developers provide software across a variety of platforms and help users retain applications when they change devices. "If you want to build actual applications, not websites, this matters," said Opera co-founder Jon von Tetzchner.
