College alumni mags trying new ways to "friend" graduates

Faced with new competition from social-networking sites, college and university alumni magazines are trying different approaches to keep readers up-to-date on classmates' personal and professional lives. Some have adopted a hybrid approach in which news appears in print and online, some have switched to online-only notes, with a blog-style approach for easy updating or commenting, while others now provide graduates with class-specific notes in print.
