Social Web dims in China as Tiananmen anniversary approaches

Photo-sharing site Flickr, microblogging service Twitter -- two services that can provide real-time breaking news reports and images -- are reportedly being blocked by the Chinese government as it prepares for the 20th anniversary of the crackdown on pro-democracy protests in Tiananmen Square. "Authorities make a point of locking down public discussion this time of year -- especially tools like Twitter and Flickr that could be used to organize protests," said Danny O'Brien of the Electronic Frontier Foundation.
