AAP says sports are safe for children with pre-hypertension

Competitive sports are generally safe for children and teenagers with mildly elevated blood pressure or stage 1 hypertension, according to new guidelines released by the American Academy of Pediatrics. The guidelines, published in Pediatrics, suggest that children with stage 2 hypertension should not take part in weightlifting, gymnastics or other sports that are likely to cause sharp, temporary spikes in blood pressure.
