Biofuels must scale up to compete with fossil fuels

Biofuels have to match petroleum-based fuels on performance, cost and scale to become truly competitive, according to this article, citing Lux Research. Among Lux's findings are that biobased alternative fuels that can replace 92% of petroleum products already exist and that they will be cost-competitive in the next three to five years. However, the lack of scale means biofuels will not replace petroleum for decades to come, according to the article.
