Report: More states are requiring PE, but waivers increase, too

More states require students to take a physical education course in school, but a growing number of students are allowed to opt out, according to a report released Tuesday. According to the report, 84% of states require elementary-school students to take PE -- up from 70% in 2006. Among middle and junior-high schools, 76% of states require the class -- up from 65% -- and 90% of states require PE for high-school students, increasing from 83%.
