Unions rebuffed in efforts to represent TSA screeners

A federal labor official in Chicago has denied an election request by two unions hoping to represent 40,000 TSA screeners. The regional director of the Federal Labor Relations Authority ruled that such an election could not be authorized until TSA workers achieve collective bargaining rights. Both the American Federation of Government Employees and the National Treasury Employees Union said they plan to appeal the decision.
