Progress Energy opened its doors to journalists to tour its Brunswick nuclear plant in North Carolina to showcase its safety and reliability. Steps have been taken to secure backup equipment and ensure its readiness and availability in the event of a disaster. "What we learned from Fukushima is they weren't as prepared as they could have been for an event beyond their design basis," said the company's vice president, Mike Annacone. "We're going to spend however much money we have to spend to apply the lessons from Fukushima."
