USDA drops food pyramid, kicks off MyPlate

First lady Michelle Obama unveiled the Agriculture Department's new MyPlate icon, a simplified symbol that will replace the old food pyramid and is aimed at clearing up confusion for Americans trying to eat a healthier diet. Trade groups representing Tyson Foods and Smithfield Foods in the meat industry and representing produce providers Chiquita and Dole expressed support for the plate, half of which is covered by fruits and vegetables.
