Calif. teachers' externships help them prepare students for careers

Porterville Unified School District in California recently hosted 75 educators for a two-day Pathways Professional Development that included externships for teachers. The goal, officials said, was to give teachers some real-world experience on work sites that they could use to better prepare students for careers. For example, Michael Freed, a teacher in a high school's health academy, was paired with a dentist's office and at a pediatrician's.
