Ice cream and cones: They met at the World's Fair

Americans ate ice cream with bowls and spoons before the invention of the cone at the 1904 World's Fair in St. Louis. It's not clear who invented the cone, according to historian Anne Funderburg, because the idea of an easy, spoon-free way to sample ice cream spread quickly from vendor to vendor.
