Testing for teacher-evaluations in NYC to expand to more subjects

Officials in New York state launched a teacher-evaluation system Saturday for New York City teachers, in which educators are assessed on a four-tiered scale and there is a lower threshold for dismissing ineffective teachers. The system also includes new assessments for students in typically untested subjects -- such as art, gym and foreign languages -- to measure teachers' effectiveness.
