Outsourcing maintenance scrutinized over labor, oversight

The decision by several U.S. carriers to outsource maintenance has recently come under scrutiny for issues such as union representation for mechanics as well as FAA oversight. Some lawmakers oppose the idea of outsourcing because it means sending U.S. jobs overseas, but outsourcing needs vary widely across the industry due to the diverse fleet needs of American carriers. FAA has defended the quality of work done at overseas facilities.
