Patient safety system uses wristbands with bar codes

Valley Health in Virginia is spending $10 million on safety initiatives, including patient wristbands that nurses scan into the computer using a bar code system to document patient care. Also, physician orders are now entered on laptops and checked for order duplication, drug interactions and correct medication dosage.
