Teachers learn from each other in collaborative groups

Teachers in an Illinois district say that collaborating in "professional-learning communities" has helped them discover best practices and new ideas for reaching struggling students. Teachers meet several times each month to discuss "what we want our students to know, how do we know when they've learned it and what do we do for the kids who haven't reached that goal," said Principal Lisa Hichens.
