Bernanke encourages banks to boost small-business lending

Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke urged banks to increase lending to small businesses in order to accelerate economic recovery and cut unemployment. "Encouraging lending to small businesses that are well positioned to pay is a positive, not a negative, for the safety and soundness of our banking system," Bernanke said at a meeting at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago in Detroit.
