Class I railroads on hiring spree after 3 months of gains

All seven Class I railroads boosted their workforce rosters in April for the first across-the-board gain since the industry's job market hit bedrock in January. North America's major railroads reported employing 149,749 workers in April, up 1.21% from March, according to the Surface Transportation Board. Employment rolls are up for the third straight month.
