EBRI: Retirement-account balances are led by traditional IRAs

Traditional IRAs from contributions represented 27.1% of the accounts in the Employee Benefit Research Institute's IRA Database at the end of 2011, while Roth IRAs stood at 19.7%. The average 2011 balance for traditional IRAs funded by contributions was $74,966, while the balance was $104,235 for traditional IRAs funded by rollovers, according to EBRI. The average balance of Roth IRAs in the same period was $25,228, according to the report.
