European genetic ancestry may be linked to North Africa

Research suggests that Southern Europeans may have a significant amount of genetic ancestry from North Africa, possibly derived from the Moorish occupation of the Iberian Peninsula or Roman interaction with North African civilizations. The study compared DNA samples from more than 2,000 people in 43 European and African populations, and revealed that 4% to 20% of the genomes for Southwestern Europeans came from North Africa.
