GAO calls for consistent approach to imaging provider accreditation

According to a report from the Government Accountability Office, CMS has not established clear standards for the three groups that accredit providers of MRI, CT and PET services. The groups are the Joint Commission, the American College of Radiology and the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission. The groups use different approaches to accreditation, and CMS does not gather the necessary data on those rejected or monitor the groups' performance, the report said.
