N.J. middle-school students see wars through the eyes of an artist

Seventh-grade social studies students from Middle School South in Howell, N.J., learned history through art with the recent visit from artist Francis McGinley, whose paintings depict the struggles of war based on stories he's been told and heard about from veterans. McGinley, age 84 and from Toms River, N.J., showed and discussed some of his Civil War paintings to the students and, as a preview of the eighth-grade curriculum, he included some of his paintings of World War II battles in the presentation.
