A study presented at the Digestive Disease Week conference found smoking as well as alcohol intake were associated with increased risk of acute pancreatitis. "Most of the literature talks about chronic and recurrent acute pancreatitis, but our study showed that even with a single episode of acute pancreatitis, smoking is an independent risk factor," said Dr. Satish Munigala.
