Study takes a fresh look at the gender wage gap

A new study from PayScale has cast the gender wage gap in a different light. After controlling for factors such as education and job responsibilities, the study found that the wage gap was relatively small -- about 2% -- when men and women are just beginning their careers. But the gap expands to about 9% at executive-level positions, the study found. Still, Heidi Hartmann, president of the Institute For Women's Policy Research, said that biases have not been eliminated. "It's clear the problem is still there," she said.
