Survey shows little progress for U.S. manufacturing while U.K. picks up

A recent survey by Markit showed slight growth in May for U.S. manufacturing, with the final Manufacturing Purchasing Managers Index reaching 52.3, up from 52.1 in April. The modest growth suggests a "risk of stalling" and could affect growth in the second quarter, suggests Markit Chief Economist Chris Williamson. Meanwhile, the U.K. saw a PMI increase to 51.3 last month from 50.2 in April.
