Dutch company buys Digene

The Dutch company Qiagen, which manufactures more than 100 diagnostic tests, will purchase Maryland-based Digene Corp. and its HPV test in a cash and stock deal worth $1.6 billion. The acquisition could give Qiagen a lead in the HPV field of medical diagnostics, which the firm's CEO said is "such an important market to be in."
