Doubts emerge about actively managed ETFs

Actively managed exchange-traded funds, introduced only this year but rapidly multiplying, have their doubters. Tom Lydon, president of Global Trends Investments and editor of the newsletter ETF Trends, says the vehicles will leave managers without any track record of success. Institutional investors like ETFs because of their liquidity and transparency, benefits that are diminished when the ETFs are actively managed, Lydon said.
