Federal agency cuts Calif. water delivery to preserve salmon

The National Marine Fisheries Service issued a directive yesterday that will cut California water delivery by 5% to 7%. The directive is intended to foster salmon runs on California rivers that have been depleted by pumping. According to the federal agency, only 1% to 2% of young salmon attempting to exit the San Joaquin water system survive the journey.
