New Orleans storm surge barrier to cost $1.8B, Corps says

The cost of building three flood gates and a storm surge barrier in New Orleans has climbed to $1.8 billion, Army Corps of Engineers officials said. The Corps hopes to finish work on the Inner Harbor Navigation Canal by 2011 and has asked lawmakers to allow it to use $540 million in funds now dedicated for other projects.
