White House to propose solution to highway funding shortfall, DOT says

The White House by mid-August will propose a solution to the shortfall in the federal fund used to pay for highway repairs, according to Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood. The fund needs up to $7 billion to avoid slowing federal highway payments to states by August. LaHood also said the White House hopes to avoid using a gas tax to correct the shortfall in the Highway Trust Fund, but it has noted that any infusion must be offset.
