Evo 4G debut points to HTC's rising status

The launch today of Sprint Nextel's HTC Evo 4G highlights the rise for the Taiwanese smartphone maker, which now manufactures flagship devices for three of the top four U.S. carriers. CEO Peter Chou said HTC had considered listing its stock in the U.S. markets. With the Evo, some major retailers are selling the phone for $199, without requiring buyers to mail in Sprint's $100 rebate.
