Aspirin performed comparably to dalteparin in preventing venous thromboembolism following total hip arthroplasty, according to a 778-patient study in the Annals of Internal Medicine. There were no major bleeding events in the group given aspirin, while there was one case in the dalteparin group. Clinically significant nonmajor bleeding and minor bleeding were reported more often in the dalteparin group than the aspirin group.
