Concrete composite provides platform for floating wind turbine

A wind turbine on a concrete-composite floating platform off the coast of Maine has been connected to the grid and is producing electricity, according to reports. The 65-foot-tall prototype is "a marvel of engineering and science" and "a giant step forward" in energy creation, said Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine. If all goes as expected, the University of Maine's Advanced Structures and Composites Center hopes to create 520-foot tall turbines to deploy in the Gulf of Maine.
