How to be better at mentoring

The original Mentor -- the friend with whom Odysseus left his son while he fought the Trojans -- turned out to be Athena, the goddess of wisdom. We can't all rise to that level, write Jennifer Przybylo and Nina Vasan, but it's possible to improve your mentoring by being approachable and relatable, staying in regular contact with mentees, and giving solid and thoughtful feedback.
