Microsoft drills deeper into hybrid cloud with enterprise software updates

Microsoft is rolling out a series of upgrades to its enterprise software suite with a focus on facilitating hybrid cloud deployments and virtualized environments. The new versions of Windows Server, SQL Server, Visual Studio and System Center -- as well as a Windows Azure Pack -- represent what Microsoft's Brad Anderson calls a push toward "cloud-first engineering." The company also introduced per-minute billing to its Windows Azure cloud service, hoping to attract more developers, Alex Williams writes. In addition, CEO Steve Ballmer is contemplating a corporate reorganization to put more emphasis on mobile devices and services, Bloomberg reports.
