Salesforce buys marketing software firm ExactTarget for $2.5 billion

Salesforce will shell out $2.5 billion to buy marketing software company ExactTarget as part of its strategy to advance its online marketing capabilities. The acquired technology lets clients manage marketing campaigns whether they're based in e-mail, social networks or mobile devices. "The addition of ExactTarget makes Salesforce the starting place for every company and puts Salesforce.com in the pole position to capture this opportunity," Salesforce chief Marc Benioff said.
