Wis. program increases access to care, reduces hospitalizations

Wisconsin's BadgerCare Plus Core Plan that gives low-income adults better access to care reduced hospitalizations 59% but led to more clinic and emergency department visits, researchers reported in the journal Health Affairs. Study leader Thomas DeLeire said the most likely reason for the lower hospitalization rate is that the program helped people stay healthier.
