New York City beefs up arts program

Schools Chancellor Joel I. Klein is engaging in a campaign to make arts instruction equal in all of the city's schools and has appointed Caroline Kennedy, the system's chief fund-raiser, to oversee the development of a new arts curriculum. Funding for the arts has fallen off since the 1970s, leaving schools to depend on private funding.
