Teacher-leader doesn't want to lose touch

As summer nears, many educators can't wait for the end of classes. But as middle-school reading teacher Cindi Rigsbee, recently named North Carolina's teacher of the year, prepares to leave the classroom for a year to serve as a statewide teacher ambassador, she fears she'll miss her students and possibly lose touch with the everyday realities of the classroom.
