Pillay: UN ready to probe abuses, promote reconciliation

The United Nations stands ready to aid Sri Lankan reconciliation efforts with an investigation into abuses during the government's battles with the Tamil Tigers, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay said Thursday. "I believe that accountability is a prerequisite for the attainment of justice and reconciliation for all Sri Lankans and, thus, a foundation for lasting peace," Pillay said.
