Concord Hospital in New Hampshire faces a $200,000 fine from the state Department of Environmental Services, which said the hospital had been disposing pharmaceuticals and other non-infectious medical waste directly into the garbage. The civil suit over the disposal of medications was the first of its kind, the department said. "Things like this should not slip under the radar," said state Assistant Attorney General Allan Brooks. "I believe this is one of the few facilities that DES found did not have a specific program to deal with hazardous waste."
