Deere plant in Wis. uses "SmartCart" to improve lawn tractor assembly

John Deere's Horicon, Wis., facility has adopted the "SmartCart" to streamline the production lines for lawn tractors, according to this article. The carts use hydraulic lifts to adjust the height of a product during assembly, while removable magnetic tapes placed on the floor guide the path of the carts and can be altered easily. This has provided flexibility to the assembly line and promoted "top-down assembly" at the plant, said Dave Werkheiser, manufacturing engineer at the facility.
