House's phone-unlocking legislation gets wireless industry support

CTIA-The Wireless Association® will endorse proposed legislation on expanding consumers' ability to unlock their phones, according to a copy of the testimony that the group's general counsel, Mike Altschul, has prepared for a House panel today. He will call the bill a "reasonable balance that protects consumers and carriers alike" which stops short of endorsing wholesale unlocking of phones. The narrowly tailored bill would roll back a Library of Congress decision on copyright law that sparked the issue but not affect other related statutes.
