A look at Antarctica without the ice

A new map offers the most detailed glimpse yet at what the topography of Antarctica looks like underneath all the ice. Data for the map were collected as part of a project known as BedMap2, which was led by the British Antarctic Survey and featured contributions from NASA. Understanding the lay of the land can help researchers understand how environmental factors will affect the ice sheet, researcher Michael Studinger said in a statement.
