Northern Ireland puts up fake storefronts ahead of G8 summit

Officials in Northern Ireland are spending upwards of $3 million to paint over abandoned storefronts with trompe-l'oeil images intended to make the buildings look like they host thriving businesses. The move is intended to spruce up the country ahead of a G8 conference later this month. "Northern Ireland is in the international spotlight, so it is entirely right that we should portray it in the best light possible," one minister said.
