Report draws clearest link yet between human, camel MERS infections

A Saudi man who died of Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus harbored an identical strain to the pathogen detected in his camels, according to a study reported in the New England Journal of Medicine. The man reportedly treated his ill camels with nose drops, potentially allowing transfer of the pathogen, but because the camels were tested after the man's death, the precise route and direction of transmission isn't clear.
