Tapentadol effective for pain with diabetic neuropathy

Data on adults with moderate to severe diabetic peripheral neuropathy pain found those who took tapentadol attained significant improvements in pain intensity during a maintenance phase compared with the placebo arm. However, the author noted concern about gastrointestinal side effects and that tapentadol is considered a "third-tier" drug. The study was published in Diabetes Care.
