FTC intends to block Whole Foods-Wild Oats merger

The U.S. Federal Trade Commission filed a lawsuit intending to block the merger between Whole Foods and Wild Oats, saying the deal would reduce competition, raise prices and potentially reduce the quality and service at the stores. Analysts say the combined grocer would control 11% of the natural-foods market and that it would improve the quality of goods and service at both stores.
