Educators: Rigorous standards may force out Michigan students

Michigan's tough new curriculum standards are likely to drive up dropout rates as freshman struggle to pass advanced math and other classes, some educators told a state House education subcommittee. "By having them leave high school without a diploma you doom them to a life of poverty, and doom their children to a life of poverty," said Rebecca Rocho, an assistant superintendent.
