EU to give members more leeway over biotech crops

The EU plans to announce by July 13 a proposal that would give its 27 member states an option to decide whether to allow the cultivation of approved biotech crops, said Roger Waite, a spokesman for the commission. "Our hope is that this might accelerate the approval procedure for [genetically modified organisms] for cultivation," Waite said.
